 December, 2020

Hello Blanketeers,

Once again as many of you begin or have begun to shop on line this holiday season, I would like to remind you about the Amazon Smile Foundation that will donate .05% of your purchase to the charity of your choice. Linus Project is one of almost a million charitable organizations that has been registered and qualifies for this fantastic opportunity. The process is a one time set up-and very easy to follow.

To date we have delivered  over 52,300 blankets in our 22 years as a chapter, to hospitals, emergency shelters, group homes, women’s care centers, and many other agencies that provide aid and comfort to children in need that would not have been possible without our wonderful Blanketeers and Quilt Shoppe’s that support NWPA Project Linus. With your caring support the statement “ It takes a village” truly does comes to life.

Thank you to all who have donated blankets, material, yarn, a place to meet or time to NWPA Project Linus, your efforts are wonderfully appreciated. That is an amazing amount of knit and purl, knitted blankets, single and double crocheted afghans, thousands of tied knots on fleece blankets and countless bindings on quilts.

February 20, 2021

  •  National Make a Blanket Day- Here are a few points of interest about MABD-
  • Bring awareness of the need for blankets
  • Bring awareness to those in need in the winter months that may be in Shelters, Emergency Services…
  • This year due to COVID-19 National Make a Blanket Day may be a bit different. Stay tuned for updates !!!
  • This date may seem far off at this time, but it will be here before we know it.
  •  There will be drop off locations in the next newsletter.

Monthly meetings:

December 2nd - Millcreek Sewing Center               6044 Peach Street        NO MEETING

December 14th – Coordinator’s home                      1446 Patterson Ave      NO MEETING

December 17th -  Doug Yaple’s Vacuum                  1815 E. 38th Street        NO MEETING

ODDS & ENDS:

-We are still in need of Boy blankets of all sizes and types from baby to the big kids.

REMINDERS:

  • Due to children’s allergies and possible Respiratory Issues we need to refrain from using dryer sheets, scented bags when storing blankets and blanket making materials. Although they make for a pretty scent, it may trigger an episode for a child receiving that blanket.
  •
  • When making a Fleece No Sew Blanket we recommend at least 1 ½ to 2 yards of fabric. And most important, before you start to cut the strips to, FIRST ,TRIM the 2 SELVAGE SIDES, then from there you have options in how you wish to tie your blanket.

Looking Ahead:

February 20, 2021-       National Make a Blanket Day

August 10, 2021-          Erie Gives Day

October 2020 Newsletter

 October 2020

Welcome Fall Blanketeers,

What a wonderful day we had at our drive-thru blanket kit pick up day, so many came and got supplies that should get them through the winter months. It was great to meet new blanketeers and catch up with ones that we haven’t seen in a while. We have already gotten some finished blankets back that were made from materials taken that day and looking forward to seeing many more !!

Here again are the Stores, Quilt Shoppe’s and Blanketeers that are drop off locations for our Chapter. I often receive calls and emails requesting this information. We are very grateful for all the time and help these Stores, Quilt Shoppe’ and individuals donate to NWPA Project Linus. Leave your contact information with your blankets, so that we know who has donated them.

Odds & Ends:

We are still in need of All size Boy Blankets. You may wonder why this request is posted so often. When we deliver blankets to any hospital or agency, we need to provide a mix of both boy and girl blankets. Very often when we receive a bag of new handmade blankets, there may be 2 boy blankets and 10 girl blankets. We know that the girl colors, prints, patterns, designs can be prettier, but we do need to supply both boy and girl blankets. Thank you for your understanding.

Just a review of approximate basic guidelines:

Preemie/newborn – 30 X 30   36 X 36   40 X 40

Toddler                    -- 40 X 52   45 X 60

Older kids                -- 45 X 60   45 X 72

REMINDERS:

·       If there are any have groups that are interested in making fleece blankets as a Service project, please contact me so that I can email you directions for single layer fleece blankets.

·       When you knit or crochet an afghan, please use yarn and needle size that will make a beautiful cozy blanket that little fingers wont get caught in. There are many Patterns that you can use, even ones that are a bit “ holey”. If you are making afghans for an older child, then this isn’t an issue. Again, thank you for your consideration.

 Hello Blanketeers,

Mercer County Pick up kits and blanket drop off:

I hope that everyone is still staying safe and healthy during this COVID -19 Virus Pandemic.

I  have been asked about us getting together for our sewing days. At this time we are not going to be having any in the near future.  It may not be until next Feb. that we can see each other. With that being said, I am planning to have a "Kit Pickup" down at Riverside Park in Greenville at the big shelter next to the Sr. Center.  It will be Saturday Sept. 26th from Noon-1:30PM. There will be patterns, kits, fleece, and yarn for you to get.

Also, if you have any blankets that are finished, you can drop them off as well. I know St. Michael Church is open during the week and for masses on Saturday and Sunday. You can take them there  and put in the Blue Linus Bin or the quilt shop (The Gallery of Fabric) in Mercer is open now for drop offs.  Or you can call me 724-588-3289 and I can arrange to get them from you.

I want to thank you for your understanding during this "new" world we are living in. I hope to see you all next year and we can get back to "normal" times. Also, thank you for your continued support that has been very much appreciated.  The children in Mercer County may not know who you are, but I do. With out your support, I couldn't do this for them.

If I have forgotten anyone, please pass this along, or if you know of someone that wants to start, bring them.
