Giving Tuesday Event

November 30, 2021

Project Linus: A Season of Giving Event!

With the holidays approaching, we are reminded that there are thousands of children across the country who are going through difficult circumstances: children in need of comfort. Project Linus provides handmade blankets as gifts to children who are ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. They may be suffering from illness, a family crisis, homelessness, abuse, or have lost everything in a natural disaster. We need your help to continue our mission. On Dec 24, 2021, Project Linus will celebrate 26 years of providing comfort and security to over 8 million children. Please help us to continue for 26 more years. We invite you to go to www.projectlinus.org and make a “Season of Giving” donation! If you wish you can designate your local chapter. ( NWPA Project Linus)
A donation of $15 will make a single layer fleece blanket.
A donation of $25 will purchase 2 pkgs of baby blanket batting
A donation of $35 will purchase yarn for an Afghan.
A donation of $40 will purchase fabric for a quilt top.
A donation of $50 will pay to send a box of blankets to children impacted by a natural disaster.
A donation of $100 provide up to 6 children with a blanket.
A donation of $150 will purchase a large roll of batting (the middle of quilts)
Thanks to our volunteers who work so hard to make these blankets!
Thank you for your donation.

December 2021 Newsletter

December, 2021

Hello Blanketeers,

Once again as many of you begin or have begun to shop on line this holiday season, I would like to remind you about the Amazon Smile Foundation that will donate .05% of your purchase to the charity of your choice. Linus Project is one of almost a million charitable organizations that has been registered and qualifies for this fantastic opportunity. The process is a one time set up-and very easy to follow.

To date we have delivered  over 53,000 blankets in our 22 years as a chapter, to hospitals, emergency shelters, group homes, women’s care centers, and many other agencies that provide aid and comfort to children in need that would not have been possible without our wonderful Blanketeers and Quilt Shoppe’s that support NWPA Project Linus. With your caring support the statement “ It takes a village” truly does comes to life.

Thank you to all who have donated blankets, material, yarn, a place to drop off blankets or time to NWPA Project Linus, your efforts are wonderfully appreciated. That is an amazing amount of knit and purl, knitted blankets, single and double crocheted afghans, thousands of tied knots on fleece blankets and countless bindings on quilts.

*** Our chapter has recently received material, fleece and yarn from a lovely Blanketeer, please contact me if you are interested in any of these blanket making materials. So many children will be comforted from the blankets that will be made from this wonderful donation. ****

-        There are still many kits available for the asking. It’s a win-win for our blanketeers. These kits are complete front and backs. As always, there is no cost to you the blanketeer. Its our way saying thank you for your help in making blankets for our NWPA Project Linus Chapter.

·        National Make a Blanket Day- Here are a few points of interest about MABD-

·       Bring awareness of the need for blankets

·       Bring awareness to those in need in the winter months that may be in Shelters, Emergency Services…

·       An opportunity for Blanketeers to get together and meet one another

·       An opportunity for Blanketeers to share their ideas of blanket patterns

·       This date may seem far off at this time, but it will be here before we know it.

·        There will be only drop off locations in the next newsletter.

Monthly meetings:

December 13th – Coordinators Home                      1446 Patterson Ave     Cancelled

December 16th -  Doug Yaple’s Vacuum                  1815 E. 38th Street     Cancelled

ODDS & ENDS:

-We are still in need of Boy blankets of all sizes and types from baby to the big kids.

REMINDERS:

-        Due to children’s allergies and possible Respiratory Issues we need to refrain from using dryer sheets, scented bags when storing blankets and blanket making materials. Although they make for a pretty scent, it may trigger an episode for a child receiving that blanket.

-

-        When making a Fleece No Sew Blanket we recommend at least 1 ½ to 2 yards of fabric. And most important, before you start to cut the strips to, FIRST ,TRIM the 2 SELVAGE SIDES, then from there you have options in how you wish to tie your blanket.

Looking Ahead:

February 19th, 2022-       National Make a Blanket Day

August 9th, 2022-            Erie Gives Day

October Newsletter 2021

 October 2021

Welcome Fall Blanketeers,

Here is a little feel good story, 12 cousins from 5 different state got together this past weekend for fun and relaxation. This group of cousins pick a charity to support each year, and this year they chose NWPA Project Linus. At the end of the weekend they had completed 26 fleece blankets and donated $275.00 to our chapter. So grateful that they are a part of our Village.

Listed below is a county by county list of drop off locations. I often receive calls and emails requesting this information. We are very grateful for all the time and help these Stores, Quilt Shoppe’ and individuals donate to NWPA Project Linus. Leave your contact information with your blankets, so that we know who has donated them.

Odds & Ends:

We are still in need of All size Boy Blankets. You may wonder why this request is posted so often. When we deliver blankets to any hospital or agency, we need to provide a mix of both boy and girl blankets. Very often when we receive a bag of new handmade blankets, there may be 2 boy blankets and 10 girl blankets. We know that the girl colors, prints, patterns, designs can be prettier, but we do need to supply both boy and girl blankets. Thank you for your understanding.

Just a review of approximate basic guidelines:

Preemie/newborn – 30 X 30   36 X 36   40 X 40

Toddler                    -- 40 X 52   45 X 60

Older kids                -- 45 X 60   45 X 72

REMINDERS:

·       If there are any have groups that are interested in making fleece blankets as a Service project, please contact me so that I can email you directions for single layer fleece blankets.

·       When you knit or crochet an afghan, please use yarn and needle size that will make a beautiful cozy blanket that little fingers wont get caught in. There are many Patterns that you can use, even ones that are a bit “ holey”. If you are making afghans for an older child, then this isn’t an issue. Again, thank you for your consideration.

Hello Blanketeers,

A tremendous thank you to all of you that made this year’s Erie Give’s fundraiser such a wonderful success.

$ 2,632.00 was raised by our community for NWPA Project Linus. When we say that it “Takes a Village”, no truer words were spoken. We can’t do what we do without you !!! These funds will allow us to purchase blanket making supplies for our kits.

We had planned on having a Fall “ Sew IN”, but due to the raising cases of COVID-19 Delta Variant, we feel that it would be better to postpone until the Spring of 2022.

Sewing kits are still available for the asking, just let me know and we can make arrangements for pick up.
