December Newsletters

December, 2017

Hello Blanketeers,

Once again as many of you begin or have begun to shop on line this holiday season, I would like to remind you about the Amazon Smile Foundation that will donate .05% of your purchase to the charity of your choice. Linus Project is one of almost a million charitable organizations that has been registered and qualifies for this fantastic opportunity. The process is a one time set up-and very easy to follow.
2017 has seemed to come to an end so quickly. This year over 2,600 blankets have been delivered, to hospitals, emergency shelters, group homes, women’s care centers, and many other agencies that provide aid and comfort to children in need that would not have been possible without our wonderful Blanketeers and Quilt Shoppe’s that support NWPA Project Linus. With your caring support the statement “ It takes a village” truly does comes to life.

Thank you to all who have donated blankets, material, yarn, a place to meet or time to NWPA Project Linus, your efforts are wonderfully appreciated.

February 17, 2018
  •  National Make a Blanket Day- Here are a few points of interest about MABD-
  • Bring awareness of the need for blankets
  • Bring awareness to those in need in the winter months that may be in Shelters, Emergency Services…
  • An opportunity for Blanketeers to get together and meet one another
  • An opportunity for Blanketeers to share their ideas of blanket patterns
  • This date may seem far off at this time, but it will be here before we know it.
  •  There will be “Sew In’s” or drop off locations in the next newsletter.
Monthly meetings:
December 6th - Millcreek Sewing Center               6044 Peach Street      1:00pm- 4:00pm
December 11th - Yaple’s Vacuum & Sewing            801 W. 26th Street      9:00am-11:00am
December 21st-  Doug Yaple’s Vacuum                   1815 E. 38th Street     10:00am- 2:00pm

ODDS & ENDS:

We are still in need of Boy blankets of all sizes and types from baby to the big kids.

Basic and Approximate Guidelines Blanket Sizes:
Preemie- 30 X 30      36 X 36                  Baby- 36 X 40    40 X 40
Medium- 40 X 50      40 X 60                      Large- 45 X 60   45 X 72

REMINDERS:

  • Due to children’s allergies and possible Respiratory Issues we need to refrain from using dryer sheets, scented bags when storing blankets and blanket making materials. Although they make for a pretty scent, it may trigger an episode for a child receiving that blanket.
  •
  • When making a Fleece No Sew Blanket we recommend at least 1 ½ to 2 yards of fabric. And most important, before you start to cut the strips that, FIRST you TRIM the 2 SELVAGE SIDES, then from there you have options in how you wish to tie your blanket.
Looking Ahead:

February 17th, 2018-  National Make a Blanket Day
July 25th,2018             Senior Day @ Erie Zoo
August 7th, 2018         Erie Gives
August17-19th2018     Celebrate Erie

November Newsletter

November 2017

Hello Blanketeers,

What a strange, yet lovely Fall we have been enjoying this year. Seems more like Summer these past several weeks than the Fall we are accustomed to. But we know what will be coming soon enough.

I hope that many of you that purchased the Boscov’s tickets for the Presale Gala Day on October 5th were able to attend and see the huge new store in the Millcreek Mall. Our NWPA Project Linus Chapter had $ 485.00 in tickets sales, which meant that 97 people bought tickets for our Chapter. Thank you.

The Holiday’s often bring requests from agencies for blankets to give out to their clients and this year is no different. Already the count is about 250 above our normal deliveries. But I always say that there are Linus Angels among us and somehow the need is always met, it’s just letting our Blanketeers know our needs.

Odds & Ends:

We are still in need of BOYS Blankets -  All sizes and all types. Knitted, crocheted, quilted and tied fleece.

REMINDERS:   If there are any have groups that are interested in making fleece blankets as a Service project, please contact me so that I can email you directions for single and double layer fleece blankets.

October News Letter

 October 2017

Welcome Fall Blanketeers,

Thank you to everyone that on such very short notice stepped up, and with whatever way they were able to helped us to achieve our goal and even surpassed it by sending 100 blankets ( which is double as to what we had originally told Headquarters)  to Houston for the Hurricane Harvey Relief efforts. When I say that it takes a “ Village”, these past few weeks have shown me time and again how true that statement really is.

At this time we have not heard anything from Headquarter in regards to Hurricane Irma of sending blankets to Florida or to the Islands that have been affected. When and if I do, an email, Face book and blog notice will go out. As always, our local needs will not be neglected, but the needs of others can be met as well.

October 5th – Millcreek Mall 10:00- 9:00

Boscov’s Gala Preview for a Great Cause, come in and see what is happening before the store is open to the public. The entire $5.00 will go to NWPA Project Linus . This is a wonderful opportunity that Boscov’s is offering to over 120 nonprofits in our area. Tickets are still available. Contact me at 1-814-392-5583 or email- nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com

You can also purchase tickets the day of – we ask that you would indicate NWPA Project Linus at the bottom of the ticket for our nonprofit to get credit. Thank you !!!

Hurricane Harvey Update

September 2017

Hello Blanketeers,

Here is a lot of information about this week and I thank all of you ahead of time for all that you do to make it possible !!

                                                          Blankets, Blankets, Blankets

So many of you have been contacting me and telling me that you are making many wonderful blankets to help those that were affected by Hurricane Harvey. We have such a generous community. I have been in touch with Erie Pack and Ship, they have been a great supporter of NWPA Project Linus for many, many years and in order for us to have the blankets in Missouri by the end of September we need to ship them out on Monday September 25th. For us to label and hang tag all of the beautiful blankets, we will need to have them by this FridaySeptember 22 nd.

Missouri Star Quilt Company is the hub where all of the Project Linus Chapters are sending their blankets to. They will then ship the blankets to Texas.

If you were planning on making Blankets this coming weekend and have them to us on Monday the 25th, you could still do that as we mayhave a call for blankets for Hurricane Irma. It takes time to get things in place. Plus there is always a need for blankets.

When you drop off blankets for Hurricane Harvey please indicate that on your bag. Contact me by email so that I know where to go this week for blanket pick ups, I would greatly appreciate it. Time is going to become very short. Thank you to all of you that have been able to respond to our plea so quickly.

Here is a list of the local drop off locations for this week’s Hurricane Harvey drive:

Kelly’s Sewing Corner   3330 W. 26th Street    Erie, Pa. 16506
Yaple’s                           801 W. 26th Street      Erie, Pa. 16508
Doug Yaple’s                 1815 E. 38th Street     Erie, Pa  16510
Millcreek Sewing           6044 Peach Street      Erie, Pa  16509
Super Stitch                  110 E. Main Street      North East, Pa 16428
