Hello Blanketeers,

Usually our blanket count can run a bit low during the summer months, but with some pre-planning and the wonderful generosity of our “ Blanketeers”, NWPA Project Linus was able to deliver over 330 blankets this month. That is nearly a record. For the first time we were asked to provide blankets for foster kids that were spending a week at camp. One counselor commented that a camper told her that he had never had a blanket of his own.

Secondly, we participated for our 5^th year at Camp Fitch, which is a camp for children of “ Wounded Warriors” , sponsored by Golden Corral. This the only time that we are actually able to see kids getting blankets, due to HIPAA regulations. Many, many thanks for the continued support !!!

NWPA Project Linus will be participating in its 6^th Erie Gives on Tuesday August 13^th from 8:00am – 8:00pm www.Eriegives.org  we qualify as a 501(c)(3) non profit and are registered for this ON-LINE event. Last year we raised $2,307.90, it would be awesome if we could reach the $2,500.00 mark this year.

We would ask that if you give to a charity throughout the year that you would consider donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day.  Last year on this one day of fund raising over 4.4 million dollars were raised here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we live in a very generous Community.

Your donation to NWPA Project Linus would help us to purchase blanket making materials , such as batting, flannel and cotton material to help us meet the growing need in our Community of children in need.

                                                                          

About ErieGives

Day and Time: The event takes place on August 13 th. You have 12 hours to make your donation between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST.

Gift Amount: The minimum gift is $25. There is no limit to the amount of money you may give. You can give up to 10 nonprofits per transaction.

Credit Cards: Only Visa, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted. The credit card processor charges a nominal fee per transaction. The Erie Community Foundation does not receive any fees. (Sorry credit card gift cards will not be accepted.)

Your Receipt: You will receive an email receipt of your gift; please retain it for tax purposes, which you should retain for tax purposes. Unless you choose to remain anonymous, your donor information will be sent to the appropriate organization.

Celebrate Erie August 16^th-18^th  – 12:00- 6:00

-        Join us for an hour or two of fun at our booth in the “Kids Zone” newly located in Perry Square on the west side( this is new this year The Kids Zone has been moved). We will be in  a very large tent provided by the city that protects us from the elements. There needs to be someone from our Organization at the booth at all times. The City does provide some volunteers that are wonderful helpers that are there for a few hours at a time. So if you stop down, it would allow us to take a restroom or meal break .

-        Children and Adults sit down and color all of those muslin squares that we have been tracing all winter long. Many families come back year after year and enjoy coloring the squares.

Odds and Ends :   

-If you have a Scout Troop, Club, Student needing Service hours or Church group that would like to make No-Sew Fleece blankets, please contact me prior to your event. I will be glad to send out the blanket making directions and requirements.

- We are still in need of Boy blankets- All sizes and types ( knitted, crocheted, quilted and fleece tied) The reason that I keep putting this notation in most of our newsletters, is this. When we deliver our blankets to any hospital or agency, we need to provide a mix of boy and girl blankets. But if we get bags and bags of girl blankets, it is difficult to provide a variety for them.

Reminders:

NICU Size Blankets 30 x 30   36 X 36 -Even though these little ones are very small, you might think that their blankets should be small as well. Not the case. These blankets are used to cover their isolettes to keep the light and sound out during their stay in the NICU.

Hello Blanketeers,

                                                                                                                                          

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer, now that it finally seems to be here and at same time, leaving a little bit of time for blanket making. We still do need some boy blankets in all kinds and sizes, as well, so if you ladies can make a few of them specifically, we would appreciate it.

July 24^th     ( July 31^st was stated in the last Newsletter)

Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –This is our 14^th year participating in this event and we are very proud to be a part of this special and fun day. There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations around the Zoo with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin squares that we call Kids Helping Kids and then those squares will be made into quilts. Stop by and visit with us.

                                                  

Erie Gives Day, On August 13^th, it will be our 6^th year participating in this amazing day of on- line giving starting at 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m.by our community. When they say that it takes a Village, it really and truly does.  www.Eriegives.org

                                                           

                                              

           

ODDS & Ends:

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. These blankets I usually find at garage sales during the summer. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.

REMINDERS:

Fleece blankets can be single or double layer, 1 ½ - 2 yards makes a great size blanket if you are tying the blanket. Remember to trim the 2 selvage sides of the fleece before you start to cut your strips and cut out the 4 corners as well.

-       In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.

-        Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.

Hello Blanketeers,

As we start to enjoy many of our outdoor activities as summer is finally here, our inventory naturally goes down. But unfortunately the need is still there for blankets so we ask you to please continue your support to our chapter with your generosity.

We have a continuous need for boy blankets,  so if you are making blankets, a few boy blankets would be appreciated.

Our NWPA Project Linus Chapter is also able to operate monthly due to the wonderful support and generosity of the many Quilt Shoppe’s and Stores that allows us to have drop off locations, monthly meetings and Sew Ins. Once again this year on August 13th, NWPA Project Linus will be apart of a very unique opportunity for this one day online event- Erie Gives from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ Eriegives.org for a fifth year. We have qualified and are registered for this event.

Over all 4.4 Million dollars were raised in this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we continue to have a very generous Community.

Summer T- Shirt

Good Afternoon Blanketeers, The Following is our Summer T-Shirt order information. For our volunteers ,you can use this link: www.projectlinusshop.org This is not in through the PL store. It is a store set up by Western Associates. They  have added a ladies cut in the shirts as well as the unisex shirts. There are not returns on these orders. These are preorder, you will place your order from now until May 20th. These orders won't ship until some time the week June 10th. This information has been sent out to all of the Chapters for the Coordinators to forward onto our Blanketeers that would like to purchase Project Linus apparel.

Hello  Blanketeers,

A gracious Thank you to the Erie Hampton Inn for hosting our Spring “Sew In” this past Saturday and to the many Blanketeers that came and spent the day sewing blankets, tracing squares or crocheting around fleece blankets. We always say that it takes a” Village”.

 NWPA Project Linus has a very unique opportunity to take part in this one day Erie Gives on Tuesday August 13th from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ Eriegives.org . We qualify and are registered for this event.

There is still a need for boy blankets of all types and sizes. When we deliver blankets, we always try to put a mix of boy and girl blankets, so that the hospital or agency has a variety to pass out to their patients or clients.

ODDS & ENDS:

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations. Again, these are items that I have seen at Garage Sales and have picked up for a quarter or so and brought home and washed up.

REMINDERS:

-        We have muslin to be cut into 11” X 11” squares and then traced for our upcoming Summer events. If anyone would like to help with these tasks, please contact me @ 392-5583 . Thank you.

-        In making a fleece blanket- cut the 2 selvage sides and cut out the 4 corners of the material before you start to cut your strips for tying or before you use your skip stitch blade and crochet around the fleece. Single layer fleece blankets, using 1 ½ yards or 2 yards of fleece.

              

-        Due to children’s unknown allergies, Respiratory issues and sensitivities please be cautious of perfumes, dryer sheets, fabric softeners and scented bags in regards to making, storing blanket making material or dropping off a blanket. These are things that we may not even think of that could set off a medical situation for a child.

-        In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these events, or know of someone that needs Service hours, please let me know. As we always say “ It takes a Village “.
