July Newsletter

 July 2018

Hello Blanketeers,

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and at same time, leaving a little bit of time for blanket making. We still do need some boy blankets in all kinds and sizes, as well, so if you ladies can make a few of them specifically, we would appreciate it.

July 25th:
Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –This is our 13th year participating in this event and we are very proud to be a part of this special and fun day. There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations around the Zoo with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin squares that we call Kids Helping Kids and then those squares will be made into quilts. Stop by and visit with us.

Erie Gives Day, On August 14th, it will be our 5th year participating in this amazing day of on- line giving starting at 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m.by our community. When they say that it takes a Village, it really and truly does.  www.Eriegives.org

Boscov’s Tickets ( $5.00) are available for the Friends Helping Friends event on Tuesday, October 16th, from 8 am to 11pm.  Once again the entire amount of the purchased ticket will go to the non-profit of choice. Call JoAnn Burkhart at 814-392-5583 or email – nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com for tickets.
ODDS & ENDS:

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. These blankets I usually find at garage sales during the summer. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.

REMINDERS:
Fleece blankets can be single or double layer, 1 ½ - 2 yards makes a great size blanket if you are tying the blanket. Remember to trim the 2 selvage sides of the fleece before you start to cut your strips and cut out the 4 corners as well.

-       In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.
-        Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.

June Newsletter

June, 2018
Hello Blanketeers,
We are celebrating 20 years of being a Project Linus Chapter, donating over 44,000 new hand made blankets to children in need in our community. None of this would be possible unless we had the support of you, our wonderful “Blanketeers” and the many Shoppe’s and Stores that have supported our efforts. As this milestone has just now come to our realization, we will look forward to a day of celebration and appreciation at Yaple’s – 801 W.26th Street on Saturday September 8th from 10:00-1:30. Yaple’s was the first store that the monthly meetings were held at, in our early years.

As we start to enjoy many of our outdoor activities as summer is finally here, our inventory naturally goes down. But unfortunately the need is still there for blankets so we ask you to please continue your support to our chapter with your generosity. Also, at this time we find that we have the need for boy blankets. So if you are making blankets, a few boy blankets would be appreciated
Our NWPA Project Linus Chapter is also able to operate monthly due to the wonderful support and generosity of the many Quilt Shoppe’s and Stores that allows us to have drop off locations, monthly meetings and Sew Ins. For a complete listing go to www.nwpaprojectlinus.blogspot.com, We ask that in return, you would support them as well.

JoAnn Fabrics is promoting Project Linus by adding their stores as drop off locations starting now. Bins will be placed in the stores, but you must ask an Associate to take your blankets, as the bin will be in the back of the store.
The stores in our area that are participating are:

JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts Store                         JoAnn Fabric and Crafts Store
7200 Peach St                                                      18921 Park Avenue Plz
Erie, PA 16509                                                     Meadville, PA 16335
1-814-866-3197                                                  1-814-724-5210

Once again this year on August 14th, NWPA Project Linus will be apart of a very unique opportunity for this one day online event- Erie Gives from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ Eriegives.org for a fifth year. We have qualified and are registered for this event.

We would ask that if you give to a charity throughout the year, that you would consider donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day.  Last year our NWPA Project Linus raised with your generous help nearly 1,050.00. Over all 4.4 Million dollars were raised in this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we continue to have a very generous Community.
Your donation to NWPA Project Linus would assist us to purchase blanket making materials to help us meet the growing need in our Community of children in need.

-        If you know of a student that may need Service hours, our summer events would certainly help them. Please contact: JoAnn Burkhart – 814-392-5583 or nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.
REMINDERS:
-         We can only accept NEW HANDMADE Blankets. Blankets that are gently used and laundered can still find a much needed home, perhaps at a Shelter or Group Home. But we cannot put a
-         “ Project Linus” label on them.

-        If you are interested in helping with our upcoming Summer events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.

-        Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.
