Blankets For Hurricane Harvey for now.....

Dear Blanketeers, I have copied a portion of a letter that was sent to me from Project Linus National Headquarters regarding the need for blankets and where they are going. Your help is greatly appreciated. But always remember that our Chapter will not be left without, by us helping others in need !!  I have fleece, material and batting, if anyone would like to contact me for supplies. I would like to be able to send 50 blankets. We do have some here, but will need more. Also, if possible I would like to send them out by the 25th or 26th of this month.  Again, your help with this project is so very much appreciated. PROJECT LINUS DISASTER RELIEF  BLANKET NEED 5000 blankets

Hi Everyone, Thank you for your patience and your support as we prepare to send blankets for the current disaster relief needs in Houston as well as those potentially needed in Florida. We try our very best to partner with relief agencies where we know our blankets will go directly to children in need.  We are fortunate to have partnered with Missouri Star Quilt Company to help with their efforts to bring comfort to those suffering during this time.  PLEASE NOTE:  Blankets will only be accepted through the end of September so this needs to happen quickly, although that NEVER seems to be a problem for Project Linus!  :-)   Here's the plan: 1.  Our initial goal is to send 5000 blankets.  Please encourage your blanketeers to send blankets that are cheerful, well made and something we would want our children and grandchildren to receive.   2.  Preferred size is 40" x 50-60".  Larger blankets are also acceptable.  Fleece and quilts, soft/light-weight crocheted and soft/light-weight knitted are welcome.  If you are sending baby-sized blankets, minimum size is 36" square in baby-friendly colors.   3. Postage: National does not reimburse postage for mailing blankets in a disaster situation. So, if anyone would like to help offset the cost of mailing, your help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Blanketeers,

Once again NWPA Project Linus was at the Erie Zoo for the presentation of the checks from the Erie Gives Day, it was wonderful and exciting to receive a check for $1,050.00 These donations will assist our organization greatly throughout the upcoming year with many assorted blanket making materials, such as batting, flannel, cotton material, yarn. Thank you, to all of those who donated on that very special day. Thank you to ALL of our Blanketeers, Volunteers and Quilt Shoppe’s that support NWPA Project Linus, because without you, we would not be able to continue our mission of meeting the needs of the children in need our Community.

September 30^th or October 14 th -   We are waiting to hear the from Hampton Inn on which date, as soon as one is confirmed I will send out another notice:

“Sew In” Day 10:00am -4:00pm @ Hampton Inn 8050 Old Oliver Rd, Erie, PA 16509. Join the Blanketeers for a fun day of sewing, knitting or crocheting. As in the past sewing kits, iron, ironing board, cutting board and supplies will be provided. Lunch, beverages and snack are also included for the day.

Remember that we have the use of Hotel’s cart for ease of getting our sewing machines and other supplies to the conference room.

We have one more month to purchase Boscov's Pre-Sale Gala tickets for $5.00. The event is on Thursday October 5th 10:00-9:00. Contact JoAnn Burkhart 814-392-5583 or nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com if you are interested in tickets.

REMINDERS:  Blankets must be made with new cotton material, yarn or fleece–

Sometimes we are given bags of material that contain the following materials, Well intentioned and thoughtful, but due to children’s allergies or the type of material we cannot use their donations.

wool, jersey, metallic, polyester, sequined, home decor. These materials maybe useful for clothing or drapery, or other sewing projects, are not suitable for children’s blankets.

Celebrate Erie Info

!!!! Here we go again !!!! 12 years in the Kids Zone at Celebrate Erie. Our tent will be in the exact same location. Right on State Street across from the beautiful Warner Theater. Please stop down, even for an hour our two to assist our helpers. We have many city volunteers, or volunteers doing service hours, but we always need a NWPA Project Linus member in the booth at all times.

Monthly Meeting

Tomorrow-
 Monthly meeting at Yaple's 801 W. 26 th Street , 9:00- 11:00. Join us if you can, as we have over 65 blankets that need to be labeled. As " They" say, many hands, make for quick work.

Erie Gives Update

At 4:00 2.5 million has already been donated by our very generous community during this Erie Gives 12 hours of giving. Our NWPA Project Linus has received $655.00 in donations. We can really use your help in reaching our goal of $ 1,500.00. We only have 4 hours left...........

Erie Gives Reminder

We are getting very excited because we are only two days away from August 8^th, when NWPA Project Linus will be taking part in a one day online event- ,Erie Gives from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ eriegives.org . As a 501-3c nonprofit we qualify and are registered for this fantastic local opportunity.

This event is growing every year,in fact there are 50 new nonprofits registered this year. We would ask that if you give to a charity throughout the year that you would consider donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day.  Last year our NWPA Project Linus raised with your generous help $1,286.00. Over all 3.4 Million dollars were raised in this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an amazing amount and we continue to have a very generous Community.

Your generous donation to NWPA Project Linus would assist us to purchase blanket making materials, such as batting, flannel, and cotton material, to help us meet the growing need in our Community of children in need.

NWPA Project Linus has just made an awesome milestone at the end of June, we have delivered over 40,880 blankets to children in need in our community since our beginning in 1998. Without the support of our volunteer Blanketeers, we would never have been able to reach so many children.

Hello Blanketeers,

There are a lot of wonderful things happening and upcoming events right now for NWPA Project Linus, so this newsletter may be a little longer than usual, but I want to keep everyone as informed as possible. So here it goes:

Wednesday July 26^th:

Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –

There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin square that will be made into quilts. Bring your grandchildren and come on in and visit with us for a bit.

As part of our Erie Gives fundraising efforts, Tastefully Simple has partnered with us from July 14th-July 28^th for orders to be placed @ https://www.tastefullysimple.com/p/11179735 - right from your computer you can look at the simple yet tasty ideas that will be delivered right to your front door.

NWPA Project Linus will be participating in its 4^th Erie Gives on Tuesday August 8^th from 8:00am – 8:00pmwww.Eriegives.org  we qualify as a 501(c)(3) non profit and are registered for this ON-LINE event. Last year we raised $1,286.70, it would be awesome if we could reach the $1,500.00 mark this year.

Celebrate Erie August 18^th-20th – 1:00- 6:00

• Join us for an hour or two of fun at our booth in the “Kids Zone” newly located between 8^th -10^th & State Street. We have a very large tent provided by the city that protects us from the elements. There needs to be someone from our Organization at the booth at all times. The City does provide some volunteers that are wonderful helpers that are there for a few hours at a time. So if you stop down, it would allow us to take a restroom or meal break .
• Children and Adults sit down and color all of those muslin squares that we have been tracing all winter long. Many families come back year after year and enjoy coloring the squares.

• We were contacted by Boscov’s, the new Department Store that is opening later this fall to the Millcreek Mall. They are having a “Boscov’s Gala Preview for a Great Cause” on Thursday October 5^th10:00 am – 9:00 pm. This event is to assist area nonprofits. Tickets are $.5.00 and the entire amount will stay with each nonprofit. What a wonderful welcome to the neighborhood that Boscov’s is doing. I will have tickets at our monthly meetings, or you can contact me at

• Also, tickets can be purchased the day of the event, I just ask that you name NWPA Project Linus on the ticket stub. That way we will still get credit for the funds.

Odds and Ends:

NICU Size Blankets 30 x 30   36 X 36 -Even though these little ones are very small, you might think that their blankets should be as well. Not the case. These blankets are used to cover their isolettes to keep the light and sound out during their stay in the NICU.
