August 2015 Newsletter
August 2015
Hello Blanketeers,
Thank you to all of our
volunteers that have either cut the 100 yards of muslin into squares or traced
pictures onto the squares in preparation for our upcoming Senior Day at the
Erie Zoo and Celebrate Erie. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
July 29th:
Senior Day at the Erie
Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at
different locations with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s
area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an
opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin square that will be made into quilts.
August 9th- NWPA Project Linus will be handing out 80
blankets to children of “Wounded Warriors” at Camp Fitch that is sponsored by
Golden Corral. These children will have a week of camping fun during their week
of Camp Corral.
August 11th
As stated this Sunday in
the Lake Erie LifeStyle issue:
“You work hard for your
money, so why should you give it away? Top reasons people say they make
charitable donations include:
I was touched by someone’s story.
I want to feel like I’m part of something.
I want to be seen as a role model.
I need a tax deduction !
Whether your motivation
is emotional or practical, The Erie Community Foundation will once again give
you a great opportunity to be charitable when it hosts its annual Erie Gives Day.”
This begins at 8:00 a.m.
and concludes at 8:00 p.m. at www. Eriegives.org.
Please consider making a
donation to NWPA Project Linus during this special on line fund raiser.
August 14th-16th – Celebrate Erie (Kids Zone )
14th- 1:00-
7:00 15th-
1:00- 6:00 16th
1:00- 6:00
In if you are interested
in helping with any of these events, please let me know. Even an hour at a
booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required
at all times to have a Representative on Sight.
- Often during an event we may have School
volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer
questions about our organization.
ODDS & ENDS:
- A Blanketeer has requested if anyone has some of
those older panels with characters on them and are not using them, or sees them
during the Garage Sale Season to get them and contact me. We can make
arrangements for pick up and reimbursement.
- UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently
used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads
of the infants in their carriers. They can be dropped off at all of our local
drop off locations.

July, 2015
Hello Blanketeers,
Once again this year on Tuesday
August 11th, NWPA Project Linus has a very unique and exciting
opportunity to take part in this one day event- Erie Gives from
8:00am – 8:00pm @ Eriegives.org. We have qualified and are
registered for this event.
We would ask that if you
give to a charity throughout the year that you would consider donating to NWPA
Project Linus on that day. Last year our NWPA Project Linus raised with
your generous help nearly 700.00. Over all 2.5 Million dollars were raised in
this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we
continue to have a very generous Community.
Your donation to NWPA
Project Linus would assist us to purchase blanket making materials to help us
meet the growing need in our Community of children in need. Last year we gave
out 2,307 blankets to children in Hospitals, Shelters, Office of Children &
Youth Service and many Agencies that service Children.
About ErieGive
Day and Time: The event takes place on August 11. You have 12 hours to make your donation between the
hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. EST.
Gift Amount: The minimum gift is $25. There is no limit to the amount
of money you may give. You can give up to 10 nonprofits per transaction.
Credit Cards: Only Visa, MasterCard and Discover will
be accepted. The credit card processor charges a nominal fee per transaction.
The Erie Community Foundation does not receive any fees. (Sorry credit card
gift cards will not be accepted.)
Prorated Match: The Erie Community Foundation will
enhance each donor’s gift by providing a prorated match to each gift made to a
nonprofit. The Foundation will divide a total of $220,000 ($100,000 provided by The Erie Community Foundation,
$50,000 provided by GE Transportation and $30,000 provided by Erie Insurance:25,000
provided by Presque Isle Downs &
Casino, 5,000 Eriez Magnetics) among the participating nonprofits. The more a
nonprofit raises the more of the $220,000 the nonprofit will receive.
Your Receipt: You will receive an email receipt of
your gift; please retain it for tax purposes. Unless you choose to remain
anonymous, your donor information will be sent to the appropriate
organizations.
Warmly,

July Newsletter
July 2015
Good Morning
Blanketeers,
Last month I mentioned
that during the summer months our inventory of blankets is often lower. The “
Linus Angel’s “ must have read the newsletter as well. On June 9th I
picked up 156 fleece blankets from Mc Dowell High School’s Key Club ( Senior
& Junior High). I was barely able to get them into my car. The student’s
were very proud and excited as they were bringing them out of the school. A job
well done and so many children will find comfort in those blankets.
That being said, we do
have a need for baby blankets. As several of the Agencies that we deliver
blankets to, only have need for that size. Sizes can range from approx.- 30 x30
, 36 x36, 36 x 40.
A separate newsletter
will be coming out in a week or two with information regarding the Erie Gives
Day, which is on August 11th.
We are always very
grateful for donations of fabric and yarn. Especially with the cost of these
items, but sometimes the fabric may be non linus. Meaning that it may be a
knit, or home décor, sequined, jersey or otherwise material that we cannot make
into a Project Linus blanket. Not wanting to discard the material, we have
taken it to Bethany House on East 10th Street. They have a
section, that will teach their clients how to sew. I was recently informed that
they will no longer be accepting any material.
REMINDERS:
Fleece blankets can be
single or double layer, 1 ½ - 2 yards makes a great size blanket if you are
tying the blanket. Remember to trim the 2 salvage sides of the fleece before
you start to cut your strips.
- In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit
full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these
events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to
take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a
Representative on Sight.
- Often during an event we may have School
volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer
questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.

be lingering this year. But on the plus side, an awful lot of beautiful
blankets, quilts and knitted or crocheted afghans and fleece blankets have been
