March, 2022

Hello Blanketeers,

I would like to thank all of our Quilt Shoppe’s, Stores  and Blanketeers for supporting National Make a Blanket Day. Without all of you, we would not be able to deliver nearly 200 plus blankets to our many agencies that provide a service to children in our area on a monthly basis. “ It really does take a Village”… …..Our Blanketeers are a true testament to that statement. Thank you, thank you.

We are still in need of boys blankets, all sizes and kinds

Save the date: May 11th for Kit pick up. More info to follow

REMINDERS:

  • Due to hospital equipment and little fingers, when knitting or crocheting an afghan please use patterns or needle size with corresponding yarn so that the completed blanket isn’t too loose or airy. Sometimes it might only take going to one size needle smaller to make all of the difference.

-Due to children's allergies and possible respiratory issues, please refrain from the use of dryer sheets, fabric softeners and scented bags when either laundering or storing blanket making material.

February 2022 Newsletter

February, 2022

Hello Blanketeers,

Once again this past year has been difficult in so many ways for all of us during this COVID-19 pandemic along with its different varients. But, through it all we were still able to receive blankets from our wonderful Blanketeers and deliver over 3,500 blankets to many agencies that had opened up. We are forever grateful and appreciate your continued support.

Once again, I am re-posting the information that was taken from our National web site regarding the beginning of National Make a Blanket Day. I have been asked of its origin many times, so here it is:

HOW DID IT BEGIN?

National Make a Blanket Day began in 1999 after the terrible events that took place at Columbine High School. We found that suddenly we were in need of a very large number of blankets, and quickly. Our chapters came to the rescue, holding “blanket bees” all over the country and then sending those blankets to our local chapters in Denver. It was a huge success, and we learned that we had a national network of people who could and would help. It was decided that we would hold an annual Make A Blanket Day where each chapter could host activities in their area to promote Project Linus and to increase our inventory of warm cuddly blankets. Generally, we can attribute the collection of 75,000 to 100,000 blankets to National Make a Blanket Day!

Due to COVID-19, all locations this year will be drop off only.

We are looking forward to a very successful Make a Blanket Day, please come out and support us.

Reminders:

·        Due to children's allergies and possible respiratory issues, please refrain from the use of dryer sheets, fabric softeners and scented bags when either laundering or storing blanket making material, or dropping off completed blankets. Although they may have a pretty aroma, the scents absorb into the materials, which may be difficult to remove.

  • When making a Single Layer Fleece No Sew Blanket we recommend at least 1 ½ to 2 yards of Fleece fabric. And most important, before you start to cut the strips that, FIRST you TRIM the 2 SELVAGE SIDES, then from there you have options in how you wish to tie your blanket.

I put this reminder in occasionally, as we still receive blankets with the selvage still on the blankets. We then have to trim each strip of the selvage before that blanket can be delivered.

Giving Tuesday Event

November 30, 2021

Project Linus: A Season of Giving Event!

With the holidays approaching, we are reminded that there are thousands of children across the country who are going through difficult circumstances: children in need of comfort. Project Linus provides handmade blankets as gifts to children who are ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. They may be suffering from illness, a family crisis, homelessness, abuse, or have lost everything in a natural disaster. We need your help to continue our mission. On Dec 24, 2021, Project Linus will celebrate 26 years of providing comfort and security to over 8 million children. Please help us to continue for 26 more years. We invite you to go to www.projectlinus.org and make a “Season of Giving” donation! If you wish you can designate your local chapter. ( NWPA Project Linus)
A donation of $15 will make a single layer fleece blanket.
A donation of $25 will purchase 2 pkgs of baby blanket batting
A donation of $35 will purchase yarn for an Afghan.
A donation of $40 will purchase fabric for a quilt top.
A donation of $50 will pay to send a box of blankets to children impacted by a natural disaster.
A donation of $100 provide up to 6 children with a blanket.
A donation of $150 will purchase a large roll of batting (the middle of quilts)
Thanks to our volunteers who work so hard to make these blankets!
Thank you for your donation.

December 2021 Newsletter

December, 2021

Hello Blanketeers,

Once again as many of you begin or have begun to shop on line this holiday season, I would like to remind you about the Amazon Smile Foundation that will donate .05% of your purchase to the charity of your choice. Linus Project is one of almost a million charitable organizations that has been registered and qualifies for this fantastic opportunity. The process is a one time set up-and very easy to follow.

To date we have delivered  over 53,000 blankets in our 22 years as a chapter, to hospitals, emergency shelters, group homes, women’s care centers, and many other agencies that provide aid and comfort to children in need that would not have been possible without our wonderful Blanketeers and Quilt Shoppe’s that support NWPA Project Linus. With your caring support the statement “ It takes a village” truly does comes to life.

Thank you to all who have donated blankets, material, yarn, a place to drop off blankets or time to NWPA Project Linus, your efforts are wonderfully appreciated. That is an amazing amount of knit and purl, knitted blankets, single and double crocheted afghans, thousands of tied knots on fleece blankets and countless bindings on quilts.

*** Our chapter has recently received material, fleece and yarn from a lovely Blanketeer, please contact me if you are interested in any of these blanket making materials. So many children will be comforted from the blankets that will be made from this wonderful donation. ****

-        There are still many kits available for the asking. It’s a win-win for our blanketeers. These kits are complete front and backs. As always, there is no cost to you the blanketeer. Its our way saying thank you for your help in making blankets for our NWPA Project Linus Chapter.
