Erie Gives update

It's almost 2:00 and 6 hours to go with this wonderful Erie Gives on line event today. We have a very generous community and would appreciate your help, to help children in need. Your donation will assist our organization with blanket making materials. On average we distribute over 200 new handmade blankets a month. In fact, this year we have surpassed 44,000 since our Chapter opened in May of 1998.

August Newsletter

August  , 2018

Hello Blanketeers,

There is a lot of wonderful things happening and upcoming events right now for NWPA Project Linus, so this newsletter may be a longer than usual, but I want to keep everyone as informed as possible. So here it goes:

Wednesday July 25th:

Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00

There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations throughout the Zoo with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin square that will be made into quilts. Bring your grandchildren and come on in and visit with us for a bit.

NWPA Project Linus will be participating in its 5th Erie Gives on Tuesday August 14th from 8:00am – 8:00pm www.Eriegives.org  we qualify as a 501(c)(3) non profit and are registered for this ON-LINE event. Last year we raised $1,050.03, it would be awesome if we could reach the $1,500.00 mark this year.
When you click onto the www.Eriegives.org site type in NWPA Project Linus
We would ask that if you give to a charity throughout the year that you would consider donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day.  Last year on this one day of fund raising over 4.4 million dollars were raised here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we live in a very generous Community.
Your donation to NWPA Project Linus would help us to purchase blanket making materials , such as batting, flannel and cotton material to help us meet the growing need in our Community of children in need.

Celebrate Erie August 17th-19th  – 1:00- 6:00
-        Join us for an hour or two of fun at our booth in the “Kids Zone” newly located in Perry Square on the west side( this is new this year The Kids Zone has been moved). We have a very large tent provided by the city that protects us from the elements. There needs to be someone from our Organization at the booth at all times. The City does provide some volunteers that are wonderful helpers that are there for a few hours at a time. So if you stop down, it would allow us to take a restroom or meal break .
-        Children and Adults sit down and color all of those muslin squares that we have been tracing all winter long. Many families come back year after year and enjoy coloring the squares.
-
We were contacted by Boscov’s, the new Department Store that is having a “ Friends Helping Friends” event at the Millcreek Mall on Tuesday October 16th ,8:00am – 11:00 pm. This event is to assist area nonprofits. Tickets are $.5.00 and the entire amount will stay with each nonprofit. I will have tickets at our monthly meetings, or you can contact me at 814-864-389 or 814-392-5583 or email – nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com. Also, tickets can be purchased the day of the event, I just ask that you name NWPA Project Linus on the ticket stub. That way we will still get funds.

July Newsletter

 July 2018

Hello Blanketeers,

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and at same time, leaving a little bit of time for blanket making. We still do need some boy blankets in all kinds and sizes, as well, so if you ladies can make a few of them specifically, we would appreciate it.

July 25th:
Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –This is our 13th year participating in this event and we are very proud to be a part of this special and fun day. There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations around the Zoo with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin squares that we call Kids Helping Kids and then those squares will be made into quilts. Stop by and visit with us.

Erie Gives Day, On August 14th, it will be our 5th year participating in this amazing day of on- line giving starting at 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m.by our community. When they say that it takes a Village, it really and truly does.  www.Eriegives.org

Boscov’s Tickets ( $5.00) are available for the Friends Helping Friends event on Tuesday, October 16th, from 8 am to 11pm.  Once again the entire amount of the purchased ticket will go to the non-profit of choice. Call JoAnn Burkhart at 814-392-5583 or email – nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com for tickets.
ODDS & ENDS:

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. These blankets I usually find at garage sales during the summer. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.

REMINDERS:
Fleece blankets can be single or double layer, 1 ½ - 2 yards makes a great size blanket if you are tying the blanket. Remember to trim the 2 selvage sides of the fleece before you start to cut your strips and cut out the 4 corners as well.

-       In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.
-        Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.
