Good Morning Blanketeers,
Erie Gives Reminder
We are getting very excited
because we are only two days away from August 8th, when NWPA Project
Linus will be taking part in a one day online
event- ,Erie Gives from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ eriegives.org . As a 501-3c nonprofit we
qualify and are registered for this fantastic local opportunity.
This event is growing every
year,in fact there are 50 new nonprofits registered this year. We would ask
that if you give to a charity throughout the year that you would consider
donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day. Last year our NWPA Project
Linus raised with your generous help $1,286.00. Over all 3.4 Million dollars
were raised in this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an amazing
amount and we continue to have a very generous Community.
Your generous donation to
NWPA Project Linus would assist us to purchase blanket making materials, such
as batting, flannel, and cotton material, to help us meet the growing need in
our Community of children in need.
NWPA Project Linus has just
made an awesome milestone at the end of June, we have delivered over 40,880 blankets
to children in need in our community since our beginning in 1998. Without the
support of our volunteer Blanketeers, we would never have been able to reach so
many children.

Celebrate Erie August 18th-20th – 1:00- 6:00
- Join us for an hour or two of fun at our booth in the “Kids Zone” newly located between 8th -10th & State Street. We have a very large tent provided by the city that protects us from the elements. There needs to be someone from our Organization at the booth at all times. The City does provide some volunteers that are wonderful helpers that are there for a few hours at a time. So if you stop down, it would allow us to take a restroom or meal break .
- Children and Adults sit down and color all of those muslin squares that we have been tracing all winter long. Many families come back year after year and enjoy coloring the squares.
- We were contacted by Boscov’s, the new Department Store that is opening later this fall to the Millcreek Mall. They are having a “Boscov’s Gala Preview for a Great Cause” on Thursday October 5th10:00 am – 9:00 pm. This event is to assist area nonprofits. Tickets are $.5.00 and the entire amount will stay with each nonprofit. What a wonderful welcome to the neighborhood that Boscov’s is doing. I will have tickets at our monthly meetings, or you can contact me at
- 814-864-389 or 814-392-5583 or email – nwpaprojectlinus@hotmail.com.
- Also, tickets can be purchased the day of the event, I just ask that you name NWPA Project Linus on the ticket stub. That way we will still get credit for the funds.

Below is a message that a mom sent to NWPA Project Linus this morning regarding her young teen daughter:
What you do for children is amazing my daughter got her appendix out. She was feeling really down and uncomfortable the nurse gave her this blanket and she felt more comfortable and fell asleep almost instantly when she woke up she said wow mom this blanket is magic! And she really thinks it has magic in it thank you!
NWPA Project Linus has just made an awesome milestone at the end of June, we have delivered over 40,880 blankets to children in need in our community since our beginning in 1998. Without the support of our volunteer Blanketeers, we would never have been able to reach so many children.
As an added bonus to our fundraising this year, we are partnering with Tastefully Simple:
In July we are having a Tastefully Simple fundraiser with Lisa Totleben. Lisa will donate her profits (25% of all retail sales to eriegives). Please visit her website at www.TSLisaTOT.com and select our fundraiser to give us credit. Pass along to your friends and family - orders can ship anywhere in the USA!
If you would rather place your order with Lisa directly, you can email her at TSLisaTOT@gmail.com or call 814-218-9828. She can also send you a paper catalog if that would be easier. Orders must be placed by July 28th for this promotion.
Use coupon code TS617AP online to save 10% on any order over $60 !

July Newsletter
July 2017
Hello Blanketeers,
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and at same time, leaving a little bit of time for blanket making. We still do need some boy blankets as well, so if you ladies can make a few of them specifically, we would appreciate it.
July 26th:
Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –This is our 12th year participating in this event and we are very proud to be a part of this special and fun day. There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations around the Zoo with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin square that will be made into quilts. Stop by and visit with us.
Erie Gives Day, On August 8th, it will be our 4th year participating in this amazing day of on- line giving starting at 8:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m.by our community. When they say that it takes a Village, it really and truly does. www.Eriegives.org
ODDS & ENDS:
If you know of a Scout that may want to work on a Service Project for an award, or a High School student that needs service hours, please have them contact our organization before they start, so that we can give them blanket requirements or activities that they could help us with this summer. 814-392-5583 – JoAnn
- UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. These blankets I usually find at garage sales during the summer. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.
REMINDERS:
Fleece blankets can be single or double layer, 1 ½ - 2 yards makes a great size blanket if you are tying the blanket. Remember to trim the 2 selvage sides of the fleece before you start to cut your strips and cut out the 4 corners as well.
- In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.
- Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.

June Newsletter
June, 2017
Welcome to Summer Blanketeers,
As we start to enjoy many of our outdoor activities as summer is finally here, our inventory naturally goes down. But unfortunately the need is still there for blankets so we ask you to please continue your support to our chapter with your generosity. Also, at this time we find that we have an abundance of larger size (mostly fleece blankets) girl blankets. So if you are making blankets, a few boy blankets would be appreciated.
Our NWPA Project Linus Chapter is also able to operate monthly due to the wonderful support and generosity of the many Quilt Shoppe’s and Stores that allows us to have drop off locations, monthly meetings and Sew Ins. For a complete listing go to www.nwpaprojectlinus.blogspot.com, We ask that in return, you would support them as well.
Once again this year on August 8th, NWPA Project Linus has a very unique opportunity to take part in this one day online event- Erie Gives from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ Eriegives.org . We have qualified and are registered for this event. We would ask that if you give to a charity throughout the year, that you would consider donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day. Last year our NWPA Project Linus raised with your generous help nearly 1,200.00. Over all 3.4 Million dollars were raised in this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we continue to have a very generous Community.
Your donation to NWPA Project Linus would assist us to purchase blanket making materials to help us meet the growing need in our Community of children in need.
ODDS & ENDS:
- A Blanketeer has requested if anyone has some of those older panels with characters on them and are not using them, or sees them during the Garage Sale Season to get them and contact me. We can make arrangements for pick up and reimbursement.
- UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers.
. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.
REMINDERS:
We can only accept NEW HANDMADE Blankets. Blankets that are gently used and laundered can still find a much needed home, perhaps at a Shelter or Group Home. But we cannot put a
“ Project Linus” label on them.
If you are interested in helping with our upcoming Summer events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.
Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.
