Joann Burkhart  Coordinator 1446 Patterson Ave Erie, PA 16508  814-864-9389

  July, 2016

Good Morning Blanketeers,

Once again this year on August 9th, NWPA Project Linus has a very unique opportunity to take part in this one day online event- Erie Gives from 8:00am – 8:00pm @ Eriegives.org . We have qualified and are registered for this event.

We would ask that if you give to a charity throughout the year, that you would consider donating to NWPA Project Linus on that day.  Last year our NWPA Project Linus raised with your generous help nearly 850.00. Over all 2.5 Million dollars were raised in this 12 hours of fund raising here in Erie. That is an incredible amount and we continue to have a very generous Community.
Your donation to NWPA Project Linus would assist us to purchase blanket making materials to help us meet the growing need in our Community of children in need.

Celebrate Erie August 19th-21st – 1:00- 7:00

-          Join us for an hour or two at our booth in the “Kids Zone” newly located between 8th -10th & State Street. We have a very large tent provided by the city that protects us from the elements. There needs to be someone from our Organization at the booth at all times. The City does provide some volunteers that are wonderful helpers that are there for a few hours at a time. So if you stop down, it would allow us to take a restroom or meal break.

-          Children and Adults sit down and color all of those muslin squares that we have been tracing all winter long. Many families come back year after year and enjoy coloring the squares.

-          I will be going downtown Thursday night the 18th to locate our booth and post the information on Facebook and on our Blog.

July Newsletter

 July 2016 Newsletter

Good Morning Blanketeers,

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer and at the same time, leaving a little bit of time for blanket making.

July 27th:
Senior Day at the Erie Zoo. 10:00-2:00 –There are usually around 20-25 Senior Agencies situated at different locations with information on Senior Living. We have a table in the Children’s area Activity Center. Grandparents bring their grandchildren and they have an opportunity to color the 11 X 11 muslin square that will be made into quilts.

A separate newsletter will be coming out in a week or two with information regarding the Erie Gives Day, which is on August 9th.

ODDS & ENDS:

If you know of a Scout that may want to work on a Service Project for an award, or a High School student that needs service hours, please have them contact our organization before they start, so that we can give them blanket requirements or activities that they could help us with this summer. 814-392-5583 – JoAnn

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.

REMINDERS:
Fleece blankets can be single or double layer, 1 ½ - 2 yards makes a great size blanket if you are tying the blanket. Remember to trim the 2 salvage sides of the fleece before you start to cut your strips.

-       In the upcoming months our calendar is a bit full of fun activities, if you are interested in helping with any of these events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.
-        Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.
Thank you so very much.

June Newsletter

June, 2016

Welcome to Summer Blanketeers,

Once again we are finally able to get outside and enjoy some much needed fresh air after a cool and wet spring.  During the summer months our inventory naturally goes down. But unfortunately the need is still there for blankets so we ask you to please continue your support to our chapter with your generosity.

Our NWPA Project Linus Chapter is also able to operate monthly due to the wonderful support and generosity of the many Quilt Shoppe’s and Stores that allows us to have drop off locations, monthly meetings and sew ins. We ask that in return ,you would support them as well.

ODDS & ENDS:

-        A Blanketeer has requested if anyone has some of those older panels with characters on them and are not using them, or sees them during the Garage Sale Season to get them and contact me. We can make arrangements for pick up and reimbursement.

-        UPMC Hamot NICU has an ongoing need of gently used receiving blankets- store bought, that they use to support the tiny heads of the infants in their carriers. They can be dropped off at all of our local drop off locations.

REMINDERS:
-         We can only accept NEW HANDMADE Blankets. Blankets that are gently used and laundered can still find a much needed home, perhaps at a Shelter or Group Home. But we cannot put a
-         “ Project Linus” label on them.

-        If you are interested in helping with our upcoming Summer events, please let me know. Even an hour at a booth would allow a volunteer to take a break or go for dinner. We are required at all times to have a Representative on Sight.

-        Often during an event we may have School volunteers, City volunteers and they would not be in a position to answer questions about our organization.

March 2016 Newsletter

March, 2016
Hello Blanketeers,
A huge shout out and thank you to all of our Quilt Shoppe’s and Blanketeers for their generosity and outstanding response to National Make a Blanket Day. Without all of your continued support, we would not be able to deliver nearly 200 plus blankets to our 3 local hospitals and countless agencies that service children in our area on a monthly basis. This saying keeps swirling around in my mind, yet it is so true: “ It takes a Village”…………………………..Our Blanketeers are a true testament to that statement. Thank you, thank you.
As we are coming closer to Spring, and Spring cleaning, we can always use pieces and parts of material and yarn. So if you might be going through your stash, please keep Project Linus in mind. Blankets made from a little bit of this and that can be the most cheery and bright for a child.

ODDS & ENDS:
-        It’s that time of year again for cutting muslin and tracing the squares. If anyone is interested, please contact me and I will get to you the supplies.
